The accused, Gasimu Kallon, who is a marketer of aluminum metal, yesterday made his first appearance before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Pademba Road Court No.1, as he was alleged to have obtained twenty five million Leones (Le 25M) from the complaint, Pa Hassan Hamid Kamara, by falsely pretending that he was a technician and can construct stainless metal rail in his house.
The accused is charged with a count of obtaining money by false pretenses, which is contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused, on Monday 17th August 2020, at No.1 Juba Junction Lumley in Freetown, obtained twenty five million Leones (Le 25M) from Pa Hassan Hamid Kamara, a retiree, by falsely pretending that he was a technician an can construct stainless metal railings for his house, which is known to be false.
After the charges were read to the accused he pleaded not guilty of the offence.
The accused was not represented in court and so no bail application was made on his behalf. The accused was sent to prison and the matter comes up again on the 29th October 2020.
