Komba Mondeh, a resident of Lower Allen Town in Freetown, has testified in the ongoing murder trial, at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No.1, which is presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma, involving one Mohamed Barrie, who allegedly murdered Adekallay Bangura.
The incident reportedly occurred at Grafton in the outskirts of Freetown on the 16th December last year.
The prosecution witness, Komba Mondeh, in his testimony, told the court that he recognized the accused and he could recall 16th December, 2019.
According to him, on that particular day, he came from work and met the accused at his veranda at Lower Allen Town. He said he greeted him and entered into his bedroom, adding that, after a few seconds, he heard the accused and the deceased, Adekallay Bangura, quarrelling. He said he immediately came outside and admonished them. According to him, they only separated for some time.
He added that he went into his room to light a mosquito coil, but he said he later heard the deceased exclaiming that “Mohamed Barrie had stabbed me,” the witness told the court.
Mr. Mondeh furthered that, before he came outside, the accused had already fled from the scene.
“I only saw blood oozing from the deceased’s wound,” he told the court.
He said, later on, one of his brothers, named Sahr, came forward and took the deceased to the Grafton Youth Chairman. He added that the Youth Chairman had instructed them to go in search of the accused. According to him, the accused was apprehended at Jui Junction and later handed over to the police at Grafton Police Station for further investigation. He said he also made a statement in respect of the matter.
At this juncture, the police prosecutor, Inspector P.M. Daramy, applied for subpoena to be sent to the government pathologist, Dr. Owizz Koroma, who will testify concerning the matter. The prosecutor`s application was granted by the presiding Magistrate.
The accused is charged with the offence of murder, which is contrary to law.
The police charge sheet adduces that Mohamed Barrie, on the 16th December last year, murdered Adekallay Bangura. The accused was denied bail and the matter comes up again on 8th July 2020.
