On Wednesday 24th March 2021, medical experts from Masanga Hospital met in Bo. The meeting was held at the Paramedical School, Korwama Campus.

In an exclusive interview with Dr Erik Wehrens, who is the International Training Coordinator for the Masanga Teaching Hospital, he said the meeting was not a new thing, but a usual routine to meet with the Student Union body in order to map out solutions in enhancing their respective membership across the country.

He furthered that the CapaCare Program was specifically designed to have a Task Shifting Mechanism wherein middle men will be charged with the responsibility of performing the role of an expert in the quest for an expert service delivery.

Further, in his statement, he said that they have been working in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) since inception. But the problem they are faced with is recognition of their graduates by the government of Sierra Leone.

He expressed satisfaction with the graduates who have passed through the institution, and deployed across hospitals in the country.

In conclusion, he lavishly praised the Norwegian born medical doctor, Dr Hakon Angell Bolken, for his prompt initiative and intervention to ensure the high rate of maternal death rate is cut down drastically over the period under review.

“I also equally engaged the National Training Coordinator, Samuel Mathew Sankoh, who expressed concerns over the issues surrounding the salary scale of their graduates.

The National President of Community Health Workers in Sierra Leone, Lawrence Teteh, encouraged many others, within the discipline, to exercise maximum patience, adding that the related state actors are currently working on ensuring the necessary condition of CHOs and CHO Surgeon Assistants are properly regulated to meet government standards of regulation in Sierra Leone.

The meeting was colourful and was chaired by Lawrence Teteh, who is the National President for Community Health Workers in Sierra Leone.
