Sedie Sawaneh, age 65, was murdered by an unknown assailant in his bedroom at Lower Saama in the Lugbu Chiefdom, Bo district. The murder took place on Thursday 19th November 2020 at about 19:45 hours.
In an interview with his tribesmen, who are also community businessmen in that part of the country, they gave a brief background about the deceased who, according to them, navigated his way into the Logbu chiefdom some 30 years ago, and he had been known as somebody who gave support to diamond miners and bought precious stones, respectively.
In addition, this medium was reliably informed that he used to hire the services of a particular motorbike rider in the community who travels with him across the mining communities for the purpose of both giving support to his customers and purchase of precious stones. However, many are saying that the murder of the 65 year old man could not be unconnected with someone who knows the ins and outs of the deceased.
The mysterious death of the Gambian national have left hundreds of onlookers in a state of dilemma, while the very many business people in that part of the country are currently languishing in panic. One elderly Hausa tribesman expressed his fear that if action is not taken, to discover the assailant, their lives will be in danger.
Police have made several arrests under the judge’s rule. They are currently at the Sumbuya Police Station awaiting transfer to the regional police headquarters in Bo. The body has been swiftly taken to the Bo Government Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination, but the family members have pleaded with the Mortuary management that they are Muslims and that they do not subscribe to postmortem examination. They added, by saying that, if the Pathologist went to the provinces to attend to his cases they should have no problem for the corpse to be exhumed to ascertain the cause of death through the police. His immediate tribesmen in Bo are set to dispatch the necessary information to wives and other family relations in the Gambia.
The body has been laid to rest at the Bo City Cemetery, whilst the family members await postmortem examination as and when it is necessary by the only pathologist in Sierra Leone, Dr Owiss Koroma.
