Woman Docked For Obtaining Money By False Pretences

Mummy Sugar has made her first appearance before Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1 for allegedly obtaining one thousand, three hundred United States dollars (1,350) from one Fatamata Kamara for the purpose of buying a house for her knowing same to be false.
The accused was before the court on one count of obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to the Laws of Sierra Leone.
The details of the court state that Mummy Sugar sometime in November 2017, fraudulently obtained one thousand, three hundred and fifty United State dollars entrusted to her by Fatmata Kamara ( the complainant ) for the purpose of buying a house, knowing the same to be false.
The accused had pleaded not guilty to the offence when the charges were read. Defense Counsel made a bail application on behalf of his client citing section 79 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965.
The defense added that the accused is a Sierra Leonean resident in the country and that he is not a flight risk and would make himself available whenever needed by the court.
Bail was refused by the presiding magistrate and the accused was remanded while the matter was adjourned to 19th December 2019.
