One Seldiatu Bangura is standing trial at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No.1, which is presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma, for the offences of wounding with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which are all contrary to the Offences against the Persons Act of 1861.
The police prosecution witness, Detective Police Constable Augustine Brima Fallah, attached at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ross Road Police Station, during his testimony told the court that he recognized the accused as well as the complainant, Isha Bah and he could also recall Monday 8th June 2020.
On that fateful day, the witness continued, he was on duty at the Criminal Investigation Department at Ross Road Police Station in Freetown, when the complainant reported an alleged case of wounding with intent and other related offences.
The witness added that he issued a police medical request form for treatment at Connaught Hospital in Freetown and, according to him, he instructed the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), Detective Police Constable Conteh M.S., to take photographs of the complainant, which he did.
Mr. Fallah furthered that himself and Detective Police Constable 5515 obtained statements from the complainant and her witnesses, adding that himself, Detective Police Constable 5515 Conteh M.S., and the complainant, visited the alleged scene of crime at Black Hall Road, Kissy in Freetown.
He said that, upon their arrival, the complainant handed over to them a knife as an exhibit but he said he later handed the knife over to the Exhibit Clerk, Detective Sergeant 10251 Abu Kamara, at the Ross Road Police Station for safe keeping.
The investigating officer further testified that he obtained a voluntary caution statement from the accused and he admitted it to be true and correct, and witnessed by 5515 Kamara M.
The voluntary caution statement was tendered in court to form part of the court records.
On the 10th June 2020, the witness concluded his testimony that he charged the accused with the offences of wounding with intent, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The police charge sheet adduces that Seldiatu Bangura, on Monday June 2020, at Black Hall Road Kissy in Freetown, wounded and assaulted the complainant, Isha Bah, in a manner thereby causing her grievous bodily harm.
The accused was granted bail and the matter was adjourned to 24th June 2020.
