The Well Body Group, a-UK registered charity committed to promoting health and wellbeing, will host a free community fundraising and health awareness event, on Saturday slated on Saturday, 8th August, 2026 to educate the public on the growing impact of climate change on human health.

The event will be held at St Giles Church, Camberwell, SE5 7LL, under the theme: “The Impact of Climate Change on Our Wellbeing.”

Announcing the programme, Chairman of the Well Body Group, Dr. Mohamed Sesay, said the event is designed to increase public understanding of how climate change is affecting health, particularly within ethnic minority communities, including Sierra Leoneans living in the United Kingdom.

He said participants will have the opportunity to hear from health experts, engaging in discussions on the increasing risks associated with climate change, including the spread of infectious and tropical diseases such as malaria, typhoid fever and dengue fever, as rising temperatures and changing weather patterns create favourable conditions for their transmission.

Dr. Sesay noted that experts will also examine the wider consequences of climate change, including heat waves, drought, food insecurity and their implications for public health and social issues such as gender-based violence.

Beyond climate-related discussions, the programme will feature health education sessions on major non-communicable diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, prostate and breast cancer, mental health, and drug and alcohol misuse. Participants will also receive information on available community support services and social care.

As part of the event, free health screening services will be provided, including blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) checks, giving attendees the opportunity to assess their health and receive basic medical advice.

The organizers have also planned a family friendly social programme featuring music, dancing, a barbecue, refreshments and networking opportunities with community leaders and stakeholders.

Although admission is free, food and drinks will be available for purchase at affordable prices, with proceeds supporting the Well Body Group’s community health programmes. Organizers are also appealing for donations to help sustain the charity’s health promotion initiatives.

Dr. Sesay encouraged members of the public to attend with their families and friends, describing the event as an opportunity to learn, socialize and strengthen community ties while promoting healthier lifestyles and greater awareness of the health effects of climate change.

“We want people to come together, enjoy good food, music and fellowship while learning how climate change is affecting our lives and what we can do collectively to protect our health and support one another,” Dr. Sesay said.

The Well Body Group has urged the public to share the invitation widely to maximize participation in what organizers describe as an important community education and fundraising initiative.
